Directory tree graph edit. Today’s small edit took me about 5 minutes to do, and I am now like two hours in on reporting about it.
Made a youtube video while I was fixing this mayor directory tree graph issue. Afterwards I posted about it on LinkedIn, and now writing this post to keep my website in sincy with the social media related with it.
So what is so important?
Today’s post title I keep short. Everything here on my website is an experiment, so let’s see what a shorter to the point title does for SEO.
Directory Tree Graph Visualization
I wish I knew earlier about this feature in Screaming Frog. I have used the program before to crawl sites and look for errors. I’ts free, you should try it. Even with the 500 urls crawl limite in the free version is is very usefull.
Should a hand out a link to screamign frog? ofcourse I should! It is relevant ánd usefull for anyone who wants to run a scan for themselves.
The visualization I want to talk about today is the Directory Tree Graph, did I mention that already? Take care not to mention yur topic too ofter, but I just want that it is clear what this posts is all about.

In this case, a couple of links on my site to obsolete http and www links opened up a whole branche splitting my site crawlers attention in half between http and https. It simply looks bads.
So ugly, it needed a quick fix
In this video I show you how to generate your directory tree graph using Screaming Frog ánd how to look up and fix on site internal links that send traffic (visitors, agents and crawlers) towards obsolete links reulting in 301 redirects.

As you can see all (crawl) traffic enters now in one straight line from https to houdyk.com and onwards. This was only step 1…
Next I will have to fix many 301 redirect. Only after that I can clearly see the current structure and think about grouping and categorizing, and balancing the flow trough my site in a better way.
I am getting tired. So it is about time to stop worting this post. Always thinsg to imporve, you know. I juts realised I upoaded above image with the title “Schermafbeelding-2026-09-23-112657” not very optimized! Anyway’s. No proofread. One more post out.

For now I categorized this post under WordPress. As I am restructurizing my site, I for sure do not want to create any new cat’s. If later on, perhaps we could add a tag or a category called internal linking, because that is what his post is also about.
That said, it seems to be best when your website is about one broader topic, and each posts falls withing one category would be best. I was wondering why my youtube channel is now hardly getting any views on new videos.
One things is lack of consictency. Ok, that is one. But still, before my video’s received many views and now it seems the channel has some sort of restriction.
Second cause may be the exponentia growth of content creation. Still, all the AI generated crap on cash cow channels will have no long future, and real human original content will win, I am convinded of that.
Third reason is my own fault. I poste video’s about too many different topics. Now it is unclear what my channel is about. Therefore no authority, therefore no views.
As a result a removed all project links from my youtube profile, leaving only this site and the dot nl for reference. Now at least it is clear what site should be linke to the channel.
Be consistent in uploads, ánd in your topic.
Ask for a referral link
One thing I am consitent in, at least for aboout the last four of five posts, is asking for a link to my website! I have learned that if I do not ask for it, people will not just spread out links that easily. For sure, the content needs to be worth spreading. So here we go…
